The External drive enclosure that does what you want is called a PC. Find a smaller low power, what they call a Client or thin Client, or HTPC type, but bottom line its a full PC to do what you want.

So far my dealings with the external media players is very mixed i bought the IAMM NTD-35

I have tried multiple times to get support for it and the company has never replied. Also there is alot of small glitches I have heard of. Such as most of teh external media players cannot read files that have gmc/quarterpixel in them. Well my media player will read fine one time and then give me the can't read error next. Make sure to do your research and I have been looking for a new one and the manufacturer mediagate looks to have a decent product but have not read about any outstanding media players yet.

I guess they do exist, but betting they are pretty close to a PC in a box still. Mediagate sounds familiar, but all of them seem very new. Something to watch, maybe wait to see how the market matures, but they do look kinda fun, and a lot cheaper than units with a screen.
