I have a dual boot set up, both Windows XP and Windows 7. I have an external Seagate HDD that had been working just fine in both.

Now for some reason Win7 refuses to see it. I booted into XP and it was found and I could access everything just like normal. Rebooted into Win7 and nothing. Any ideas why?

Assume the Seagate external is USB? If sp, try hot plugging it after Win 7 is running.

tried that, I think it may be a driver issue. Under hardware, there seems to be a problem with "unknown hardware"...I unplug the drive and it goes away...unfortunately I no longer have the driver disk that came with the enclosure....I originally bought it to use as an NAS guess I'll have to go back to that.

What enclosure is it? I have 5 externals - two on Vista and two on Win 7, and one on XP. None of them require drivers other than what is in the OS's themselves. Maybe a NAS config will work better.

my external wd drive had the unknown device when it was plugged in firewire on windows 7 because they dont have a drive for the custom led indicator. but plugged in on usb works fine no issues
