external trusts win2000 server and winNT

I have 2 networks. One with static IPs with winNT Server as the domain controoller. For the second network, I used a router sharing one of those static IPs and giving (not DHCP) non-routable IPs and I have a Windows 2000 server domain controller on it. Now I am trying to trust both the domains. But they are not able to find each other. I know I am missing something here. Has anybody faced this problem?
