external modem driver???

For what OS?...2k and XP have built in support for most 3Com modems.

That is odd, since USR lists the 3CCM156 as a PC Card modem.

i know, and thats what surprised me the most.
i even desapately rtied to use this driver. but didnt work ofcourse.

by the way im trying to configure that modem on a W2K platform

 
3COM and there multitude of modems and confusing number scheme....

Have you tried as installing as Standard 56000bps K56 Flex Modem (I am guessing it is of that spec?).

Make sure the modem is turned on when you boot your computer. Bring up the Modem control panel, on the Modem tab click the add button. This brings up the Add Modem wizard, click the Next button, at this point Windows will query all your comports for a modem and automatically add them. No drivers needed.
