I own the Iomega Zip CD USB, and it is a rock solid preformer. It isn't the fastest drive out there, but slow and steady beats fast and coaster. I know the newer drives have burn-proof, but most of the mid-line drives don't, so this is a good choice. The reason it is discounted is that Iomega is releasing a newer, sleeker USB CD-RW called The Predator, click here for its SPECS. I was going to buy the HP USB drive, but every forum I searched said stay away as it had major driver problems. Iomega routinely releases new drivers, so I can't see how you can go wrong.

This drive will not work with Clone CD, (last I checked) and has some issues with MusicMatch Jukebox in W2K. The drive tray is somewhat fragile, so if you have little kids that play around with your computer, you will have a busted tray soon. Think Notebook CD tray. I have had good luck with this CD, burns great disks and looks stylish on your desk. Nice not to see so much BEIGE for a change.

Walmart also carries this drive, but they are out of stock online. My local store was out also, but I bet a few still have these. I noticed that the price dropped recently from 249 to 168. With rebate that's almost as good as the staples deal.

I Price Matched with Staples to thenerds.net, added 40 off coupon, saved a few bucks over original post, now 156 with shipping, will be 106 after rebate. Staples included 11 shipping fee from thenerds.net, and tax.

Nice CD-RW drive, plus it's external and USB. Sure it isn't the fastest Plextor but it's a rock solid performer.

Received my drive from Staples. UPC does not match the one that the rebate form requires. Staples UPC is 742709111280, rebate form states only for 742709314759. BUMMER! Anyone know why Iomega would honor only one particular UPC on this unit?

Can anyone else confirm that the rebate does not apply to this drive?

If I were to use this with my Dell laptop does it require an external power source? Probably but I can hope.

i also ordered this thingy. after looking around a bit, i found out that the price for eligible upc is $249.99 (from iomega site) while the price for this upc is $199.99 (also from iomega). i think iomega is trying to liquidate all of the "old" stock by giving rebate to bring down the price to be the same as the new ones... oh well...

i went to return the drive at the local staples and got a store credit back. (they won't credit back my card.) now i gotta find some other good deals from staples. :frown:

You can cash the store credit AFTER the end of the month. That's what i've done before.

Startide Rising:

I guess you don't read very well. You can't get this drive for $123 let alone your $107 price. The UPC on the product doesn't match the UPC that's required for on the rebate form. I only posted this information about 4 messages before yours.

I put this in the other thread but will add it here also:

Here is the deal fellas.

IOMEGA has fubarred the situation.

Call this number in Young America and explain your dilemma. They will take down your info (ie name addres, etc.) They will give you an account in their computer system and mark it as pending receipt of your paperwork. They will also give you a different address to send it to. The rebate will be paid in full but you must call this number and set this up with them and then let them give you the info listed below.

1-800-510-2586

New Address:

IOMEGA Promotions Center
Department 3331-1
P.O. Box 4129
Mankato, MN 56002-4129

I say again I was told the rebate will be honored. This number was given to me by IOMEGA customer service. Hopefully this will take care of everyone.

if what GCS says is true, then we can possibly get this drive for $107? I'm curious what info startide had to get the price down to $107. Also, does anyone know the deadline for the rebate?

edit: found the deadline: Dec. 31st

edit 2: looks like its out of stock at staples. Anyone know of another place to get this drive down to a similar price?

Thank you, GCS. I was about to send in my rebate, and I would never have paid that much attention to the upc on the rebate form. Unfortunately, Young America is suck. They tried to cheat me out a memory rebate from OfficeMax by saying I had to include the original of a packing slip, not a photocopy. I called OM to complain and got got my $25.

I just called the number listed above. The CSR said that they are not honoring the rebate on this drive. He explained that the drive from Staples was a newer drive and was not eligble for the rebate, no if, ands, or buts. Bummer....
