external hdd enclosure

i searched and most topics that came up dont compare them to a NAS type enclosure. im looking for whats going to be the most speed for the money. meaning $ -> MBps. anyone have any links or first hand experience with using a gigabit ethernet enclosure and a firewire/eSATA/USB enclosure?

I use a Vantec NexStar 3 eSATA and it is as fast as an internal HD. It's all aluminum and keeps the HD cool. Well worth the money. Just don't go the USB 2.0 route.

I use mobile racks for my computers now, but I've used external USBs before.

My externals weren't reliable so I went to mobile. I've been watching the externals and their prices are very enticing.

I might go that route since external sata hdds are now available, I will check them out.

Does your case have eSATA connectors in front or do you have to reach the back of the PC to connect?
