External HDD enclosure...

I have to recover some data off of a laptop hard drive. I want ot get an external enclosure for the HDD, and pull the data out. Will using this drive over USB require a reformat? This is NTFS formatted.

To be more specific: It is 'indepedent' The filesystem the drive uses and the enclosure are mutually exclusive. It depends on what you plan on plugging the thing into. That is to say, if you plug it into a windows XP box, which can read NTFS, it will work. If you say, plugged it into a Linksys WRTSL54GS, it won't work, because it runs a stripped down linux and can't read NTFS. Same with Macs and older Windows 9X installations.
