External HDD 24/7 operation?

I have a Seagate 120GB/8MB drive connected via this external enclosure. Is there any more risk involved running this drive 24/7 versus one that is directly connected inside the PC? TIA.

That enclosure that you are using looks as though it has no exhaust fan.

I have one like it and it heats up big time, therefor I try not to leave it on 24/7.

I have 4 enclosures like this one.

It has an exhaust fan in the back and I installed HDD fan on the front like this one.

The results are that no hard drive heatup, or very little.

I have a Metal Gear Box enclosure and the HDD runs pretty cool.

From the review:
The wire mesh side screens are a superb idea for anyone seeking maximum drive life. The MGBS designs allows for the exchange of air within the enclosure, plus the metal plates act as heatsinks to pull heat away from the drive. This option is a must for anyone interested in today's fastest drives. especially at rotational speeds exceeding 7200 RPM.
