External HD recommendations

My dad is looking to get an external HD, can anyone tell me brands to stay away from or tell me their experiences with them?

My first choice would be Seagate.

I just bought a mostly aluminum mobile rack and a USB to IDE adapter cable on special from the geeks.com. I put that together with a drive I bought via the FS/T section here and I have a nice 160GB external drive for under $75. total.

maxtor onetouch is great, however a tad expensive for a lot of people. I like the simplicity of the lacie porsche. Seagate hasn't come out with an external drive based on the 7200.10 series... i'll be waiting.
