external hardware trouble

i short while ago i added a memory stick, a hdd, a dvd drive, and a video card. since then (i'm assuming that the installation was the culprit) my printer and my digital camera aren't represented in my os when i plug them in (both via a usb port). i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for both and nothing. when i installed my other hardware i just popped them into place and started up like normal, except for the video card which i had to install the drive with the disc that comes with it. if it isn't already painfully obvious, i'm a noob. that's right, a f*ckin' noob, what of it?

anyways....

is there a quick fix for this, or are the possible avenues to correcting this to few to attempt without explicit detail. if you need more info, please tell me and i'll try to get it. i don't wanna have to be the dope that takes his digital camera to walmart so the photolab phlunky can put it on a pretty cd for me with my name on it and everything.....sigh.... that sounds lovely. seriously, though. any help would be greatly appreciated. the twins are turning one and if i don't email some pictures to grandma PDQ then i'm up sh*t's creek.

yes....

i recently installed sp2, then uninstalled it. i'm pretty positive it was happening prior to that installation.

i read a thread in here that said the order of hardware installation can make or break your system. what is the order of installation and could this be a side effect of improper installation?

I would download and install the latest chipset drivers for your system.

You can also try this: Boot into Safe Mode, and open Device Manager. Delete everything under "Universal Serial Bus". If your printer or digital camera show up, delete them as well. Reboot back into normal mode, and allow the devices to reinstall themselves.

worked like a charm!!!! just want you guys to know that i'm very grateful for all of your help. this was really starting to bum me out, so to finally get this working is a large burden off my shoulders. again, thank you!
