External Hard Drives?

Hello, I would like to get an external hard drive for my systems. I guess I would like one that has both usb 2.0 and firewire. What is the best route to go?

Should I buy the enclosure and then a hard drive of my choice?

Or, should I buy it all together.

Any pointers for what and where I should get this would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Ryan

There are some nice pre-packaged external HDDs available... and they have nice perks such as not having to assemble a drive kit, etc.

However, I think they are too expensive. I personally recommend purchasing a drive kit and an HDD and assembling your own external drive.

Here are the products that I have purchased for the past 6 external drives I have provided for my clients:

ADS Dual-Link External Drive Kit (USB2 and Firewire)
ADS Tech Dual Link Drive Kit

Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM FluidDynamicBearings @ Newegg = $180
WD 250GB @ Newegg

These ADS kits are easy to assemble, robust in design and fairly attractive looking. Plus, you can't go wrong with WD HDDs... and the final cost is better than a pre-packaged external drive.

Epsil0n00 suggestion is very good and the only thing I would add is thinking about adding 1 Firewire 800 case and card to the mix!
