External hard drives or BD-R for backups?

Optical media has a much shorter life span than most everything else. If you're going to drop the coin on a BLueRay burner, get yourself a tape drive instead.

Ehhh, tape drives are a lot more expensive than BluRay burners, and will probably require the purchase of a controller card as well. Tapes are more affordable than BD-R media on a per GB basis, though.

(I'm actually in the market for an LTO-3 drive at the moment.)
