External hard drive question

Guys,

I have 2 extra 250 gig hard drives that I want to put in an external enclosure.

I would like put them into the same enclosure and have them seen as 500gigs. They are PATA drives and I would like to have USB2 or firewire.

I especially would like SATA connectivity if possible.

I am looking at the upcoming Netgear Storage Central device. I don't need ethernet compatibility, but that Netgear is cool and cheap. I should add it is not available either.

Any other ideas?

Kinda like the LaCie devices without the included hard drives.

Thanks

To have two 250's be a 500gb partition/drive, you are going to have to do a RAID array (either RAID 0 or JBOD). Do you plan on doing software RAID, or do you want the external closure to include hardware RAID? I very well might be wrong, but I've never seen an external closure do RAID...

I am no expert, but how do the LaCie drives work? The ones that are 500 gig (250x2) and the Terabyte (250x4)?

Thanks.

Do you want external SATA connectivity, or the hard drives to be SATA within a Firewire box? Just checking...

Okay, I stand corrected. The LaCie externals do have a built in RAID 0 controller. I was searching through google for a multiple SATA enclosure, and just SATA enclosures, and found this.

Here's an idea or This for a little extra bling

Guys, thanks for all the help. I never knew that stuff was out there.

I think I am going to get the one Blain recommended (yea, yea the one with the bling).

But, if there was one more feature to add. I would like to have everything the same (internal ATA) AND have external SATA connections.

Is that possible? Otherwise it seems great.
