I have had no luck finding an external hard drive enclosure with and internal SATA interface. All of them seem to have an internal IDE interface with an external USB/Firewire/SATA interface. Has anybody heard o,f or had any experience, with any good ones? Thanks in advance for your help.

If I understand it, sata can be used externally... you just need to connect a front or back panel device to the sata headers on the drive, and get an enclosure that will power the sata drive. I've seen even some fan controlers that fit in the front bay and have 2 sata connectors.

If you're looking for a usb enclosure, I dunno.

Well, my motherboard (Asus A8N Deluxe) comes with a back panel that has sata and power connectors externally and internally. Do you think it is adequate to have a bare drive connect to this for backup purposes only then placed in a static free environment? Or should I get an enclosure that will power it externally? Thanks again.

Yeah. Newegg has 'em.
A quick search will bring them up for ya.
Another possibility.
Also, I would check cyberguys too, I know they make connecters that fit on the pci bracket that allows an external molex or SATA connecter, no need for an AC adapter. Then you could also make an enclosure of your own with cutouts for the SATA connections. I think it would be a cool mod to make your own SATA enclosure. Anyway, good luck with finding what you need.

Thanks for the feedback. I feel like quite the idiot not looking on Newegg. Been googling it as well as searching other sites, and I could only come up with internal ide w/ sata converters. Thank you.
