I have someone whom needs an external Firewire connection for a digital camera........why you ask don't they simply install a PCI card??? Well, they are maxxed out on an older system and have no PCI slots left and can not give up what they have. Is there such a thing as an external firewire hub even made??? I've searched a bit, but can not find one..........anyone know if there is or isn't for sure???

Most are kinda expensive, but this Firewire hub for $25 might do the trick.

The world's coolest (and unobtainable) Firewire hub is the Godzilla Dino Hub though. :D

However, I'm not sure I understand. If I read you right he wouldn't be able to use a hub anyway. All a hub does is expand the number of ports. ie. 1 port --> 6 ports. If he doesn't have a free port to begin with he still needs a PCI card.

LOL! I know...........I was sort of vague there wasn't I............ Sorry.........

What I was hoping for was a serial port or some other connection that converted to a Firewire Hub...............I'm at wit's end with this guy through the phone and he says he doesn't have the $$$$ to upgrade from his K6-2 350 even though he drives a BMW and lives in a 5000 sq. ft. home...........

Not much chance of a converter from serial or USB 1.1, considering that Firewire runs at 400 Mbps. That's 4X the speed of 100BaseT.

Note that the SB Audigy has a built in Firewire port. If he's not using on-board sound he could swap out his audio card for not too much. The Radeon 8500 AIW also has Firewire, but it's $$$$.

That's what I first considered.................but, the guy is so tight...............he squeaks! LOL! I think I'm simply going to tell him no go and let him go bother someone else.............;) Thanks for the ideas though.............I figured there was nothing, but, ya' never know and I was hoping I had missed something along the way that may work for him............
