External CDRW

Looking for a good external CDRW, what do you guys suggest. I've been looking at the Yamaha 16x10x40x ext. firewire, the iomega predator 4x4x6x which can be supped to 8x4x32x with firewire or USB 2.0. If there are any other good ones please do post.

By the way can someone explain the USB 2.0, is that another separate adapter?

Thanks

What I did for my father's laptop was to buy an external firewire case and put a plextor 12x10x32x in it. It ended up a better deal than any other external drive that I could find - a little more than the USB drives, which are slow and ridiculously expensive.

go with an internal in a fireiwre case! The only real solution for an external CDRW.

USB 2.0 requires a new card! It looks like USB 2.0 is a big flop. Everyone likes firewire better even though USB 2.0 is faster.

Thanks for the info guys. I was wondering how difficult it would be to install the internal cdrw drive into the firewire case?

If it is pretty easy, where do you suggest I get the firwire case?

Thanks again.

Newegg has a generic enclosure for $95 + $6. This should do fine. It is very easy to install, just like the internal but you don't have to fool around inside a case. It has just an ide cable connected to the electronics, and a firewire port on the back where you plug the cable that connects to he firewire port on your computer.

Yeah they dont get much better than the kit from Newegg.com! Get the Firewire kit though and avoid usb at all costs. Remember to get a firewire pci card for 20$ from newegg as well if u dont already have one.
