external cdrom: how to connect audio cable?

how can i listen to audio cds with an external cdrom? the wire cable is too short, and the cdrom is enclosed in a case.
any help?

Buy a cable that will plug into the earphone jack of the CD-ROM unit and plug it into the line in on the soundcard. I don't know if the two methods share the same capabilities, but that should work.

All of my external case CD-ROM drives have standard RCA female ports (L)(R) on the back . . . just plug them into LINE-IN with a cable that has 2 male RCA plugs on one end and a Sony stereo mini-jack on the other.

The headphone port is workable, but you will find the volume control hard to control . . . it's very sensitive.

my cdroms are housed in a scsi tower, which has no audio output in the back.

the headphone idea is works and seems to be the only solution other than wiring the cdaudio cable out of a bay into the main tower.

thanks
