I was going to the track tomorrow evening and wanted to video at least from the inside. I purchased this mount: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o03_s01_i00

Should I have any concern with this fly off at speeds over 120mph? Do tracks frown upon stuff like this? I haven't been to a drag strip in a few years and video camera weren't really being used like this. Any pro tips on recording would be greatly welcomed.

Uhm, I wouldn't trust suction cups to that speed.

Suction cups in my experience fail way to regularly to risk your camera and your or another's safety on a drag strip.

Not just suction cups, but there's a lot of dust/dirt/etc kicked up. I would want my nice camera attached to the outside of the car.

Gopro.

I will just stick to in car then. I notice a lot of videos, even professional reviewers using suction cup mounted cams.

didn't have any problems with my suction cup mount on my bike at 105mph. just make sure you attach it to a clean, smooth surface.

Suction cup should work fine as long as the surface is clean before you attach it. The only thing about the one you linked is that the arm is kinda long. Maybe more drag might lead to more leverage to pull it off, or at least make it move around more. But then there are two cups, so it might be OK.

I just use the standard one that come in the gopro motorsport package. Seems fine, but I havent been up to 120mph with it yet.

Get a GoPro?

Having thought about it for a few moments, I wouldn't put a tether on the camera. It will likely just smash up the camera and cause body damage to your car.

The camera I was going to use is 4 years old and probably the same size and is worth much less than a GoPro. I not heavily concerned if it gets damaged.

Then go for it! I've got a cheapy point-and-shoot for just that reason. I wouldn't worry about anything getting kicked up in your face. If it does it means you were losing your run and you don't want that video :awe:

I've used a single suction cup mount with my ContourHD on plastic, glass, and metal up to 127MPH. I was skeptical at first so I waited for someone else to be the guinea pig.
