Guys, I am looking to buy an enclosure for a brand new seagate 40gb ata/ide 7200rpm hd. I am going to be using this for the business I am running, starting Jan 1, 2005. It will be for backups of computers that need to be backed up, for any given reason. So why am I asking u guys? I have a few small questions.

I am looking for suggestions on enclosures that dont produce alot of heat, are reliable and have the following specs:
- Is USB 2.0 compliant, but can also be used in usb 1.1 situations (not all comps have usb2.0 yet)
- Will be a "PLUG and PLAY", and if I find one with plug and play capability, will ALL os's pick it up as plug and play, or will 95, 98, and ME require DRIVERS?
- Is reliable, durable, and resonably priced.

Guys I hope u can help me out here, I need to find the best one possible for this setup, so please if possible link me to the products u think might fit, thanks!

W95/98 (and ME?) will require drivers, they don't have USB HD drivers built-in like XP. So burn a backup of the driver CD and bring it or the original with you.

The Bytecc enclosures at newegg get a hight rating. The enclosure itself gets warm but people aren't complaining about failures. Cost will be $35-40 shipped.

This is what I have and I love it. Stuck my extra WD 80GB drive in it and have had no problems w/ data corruption, heat or transfer speeds (on a USB 2.0 connection)... being used in XP so no drivers needed.

Only thing is, don't lose the screws... they're tiny and can be misplaced easily. The hookup and assembly is a snap, even though the installation document is not in english... pictures only, but very easy to follow.
