Extending range

I currently have a setup at a construction jobsite consisting of the ISP's wireless modem/router paired with a wired sonicwall TZ-100 providing an IPsec VPN. There will be a user at a connex a "few hundred feet" from the trailer that this setup is in.

What is the best way to a) extend the range of the ISP's wireless connection or b) what AP (would I need a signal booster or directional antenna or anything?) setup would be best if I wanted to add an AP to the Sonicwall so that the user can take advantage of the IPsec VPN?

I use this antenna paired with my wireless card and can pick up signals up to 150 yards away. If you have a clear line of site and had one of these antennas on each end you could probably get up to 500 or more yards.

I second boochi's recommendation. That antenna worked wonders on the bridge of a yacht once. Kept the signal steady in the captains cabin behind a wall of equipment. Also used a pair of them to get a set of phones humming across a parking lot.

I don't think there will be line of sight from windows of the job trailer to the connex. If I can point the antenna through a wall towards the destination will it still work somewhat well?

It might, or not, you will not know unless you try.
