Extending PSU wires, do they need to be of equal length?

I am using a PSU to light some cathode tubes. I need to extend the wires about 6". Do my extentsions need to be exaclty the same length? Say, if the wires are an inch different, would that cause problems?

Also (seperate, but related project). I have a device that plugs into the wall (120v AC). I want to splice the wire and put a toggle switch in. Does it matter which wire I splice?

are you talking tube to invertor? not sure what your trying to extend. i would not be cutting up your psu.
