extending network

I want to extend our wired network from our school to our football field press box(approx 300 feet from school). I am thinking of using a wireless bridge from school to pressbox. My question is can i then have a switch or hub in the pressbox so I can use hard wires instead of wireless cards. Also if my school network has a dhcp server can it be bridged over this wireless connection.

Welcome to the Network Forum.

I would divide the issue into two.

1. Distance

2. Hardwire in the press box

Num 2 is easy put a Switch in the press box and connects the computers to it. Then, connect to one of the switch ports an Access Point in a Client Mode, or a Consumer Bridge (like the Linksys WET11). If the Wireless device it within the range of the Wireless source it will let the press box computers pickup IPs from the main DHCP and be connected to the Network.

About distance.

300? is doable providing there is a clear line of sight between the source and the press booth. If you would put a good directional Antenna on the source it will work OK.

The following link has info; about Wireless Modes you might find other methods to ?slice this pie?.

Then wait till students/parents find out you have wireless and suck your bandwidth. Shore that puppy up too....
