Ok.
I've got an SMC 4 port Barricade Router/Switch.

I need more ports.
I obtained a Linksys FEHUB05W which is 5 ports + an uplink.
Linksys Hub

I am running DHCP with the router/switch.

I connected port 4 of the SMC router/switch to the uplink port of the Linksys Hub using a straight-through cable.
I get a link-light on that port.

Unfortunately, when I try to connect another computer to the Hub, it wont connect. I can't get it on the network.
Does the SMC not "recognize" the added hub? Does it not give the computer connected to it an IP?
I also tried connecting port 4 of the SMC switch to differnet ports of the Linksys hub with a cross-over cable and the same thing... link light on whichever port i connect it to, but i cant connect computers to the other ports.

What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, its really weird, I dont know why this isnt working.
Seems straight-forward enough.

The Linksys hub has an uplink.

So... I am using a straight-through cable from the uplink on the Linksys Hub to a port on the SMC switch.

Yet it isn't working.

Maybe I need to restart the Switch/Router, although I don't see why that would matter.

I will try this tonight! I have the SMC and had an older 5 port 10/100 switch that I was going to use downstairs anyway.

One note on the link mentioned above...it says on the link that you can not mix fixed and dual speed switches/hubs, etc.

The SMC is 10/100 autosensing and your hub/switch is 100BTX ONLY. I wonder if that is it?

Anyway, I will try my switch tonight...and reply from it if it works. :D

Hmm... that is really weird...

I have the 4port SMC router also. I have it hooked up to a 8 port dlink 10/100 switch and the computers that are plugged into the switch work perfectly fine. I have a patch (straight) cable running from port 1 on the barricade to the uplink on the dlink, but the port #'s shouldn't matter anyways... Have you tried upgrading your firmware to the latest (1.90E I think)?

Also, try connecting the computers that don't work directly to the barricade and see if they work then.

I've hooked up a SMC router to the switched uplink port of the Linksys 4-port and that works fine as wel. That is really weird that it isn't working.

ZOD...

No problem...I am typing this now from a switch hooked to my SMC router. The switch is a 10/100 5 port ADDTRON, and is downstairs...about 50' away...at 100MB.

Ok.
it was weird.
i did two tests.
one with a win2000 machine running an old ISA nic.

no good.
then i tested with a laptop with a 3com NIC.
all the NIC would do is flash and no connectivity light on the hub.

then, since DaveR noted that the hub isnt autosensing, i connected a win2000 desktop machine, and boom, it worked.

I think the ISA nic was 10mbps, but i have no clue why the nice new 3com NIC doesnt work with it... kinda weird.

did you try doing a "normal" to "normal" connection? maybe it's not a straight thru cable.

zod...isn't your HUB 100Mb ONLY? If so, that is why the 10MB NIC will not connect. The SMC is dual speed...10/100 so it will work with either.

Try setting the 3Com NIC to 100 in properties, the default is usually autodetect. Just a guess...
