Extace - ESound Visualizer. How to make it work w/Pulse?

So, being rather deaf, I always appreciate a good scope analyzer. The best one I've ever come across is Extace. Unfortunately it relies on ESound, which--to put it lightly, is deprecated.

Supposedly PulseAudio has an ESound module, but I have never been able to get it to cooperate with Extace. Anyone know how to do this?

...neeeeever mind. Somehow I was able to get the latest one going to use Pulse directly. Had to compile from source (and fix some weirdness where libm wasn't getting linked in...) but for a Gentoo expat that's no hardship.
