I know it wouldnt be real fast but it would work for those without a decent onboard GPU. Just curious.

There was a product coming out from Asus (or at least demonstrated by Asus) that would allow for external graphics over the expresscard pci-ex1 interface. Otherwise, I don't think there is much you can do.

Yeah just have never seen a date for when that is coming out, I just saw this and it at least would be a small option to some people who got stuck with a crappy on board, I dont play games so doesnt do anything fo me and I bought the quadro 120 with my D820 and it works fine for me, this would just be something to play with.

BTW if you look at engadget today it looks to be the same sort of thing just an external box with a pcie slot and their custom display that comes with it, so I would think this would work just the same. On the site they even metion try to pair any external card you buy with the same internal one on the laptop.

I know there is work on an external PCI-E standard as well. There is also the option of getting a notebook that will allow the use of a full docking station, such as Lenovo (the advanced dock has a physical PCI-Ex16, PCI-Ex1 slot that allows for a half-height PCI-E graphics card). The name of the Asus product was the XG Station. I looked on engadget, but I didn't see what you were referring to.

They had a link to chinese site that got one and tore it apart to show it was just an external pcie box with a proprietary display on top. It is on page 3 of engadget right now towards the bottom.
