Andre Dawson played 21 seasons in the majors, spending 11 with the Montreal Expos and six with the Chicago Cubs. How his numbers stack up:

Expos (1976-86) Cubs (1987-92)
BA .280 .285
OBP .326 .327
Slug pct. .476 .507
HR 225 174
RBIs 838 587
SB-CS 253-85 (74.9 pct.) 57-21 (73.1 pct.)

A little different than with Gary Carter, who was inducted as an Expo.

I would say Expos, longer tenure.
How does it work, is it up to him to choose?

Yep, player's choice.

There was some talk a couple of years back of taking it out of the players hands, though I don't think anything came of it.

Going in as an Expo will make for some interesting scenes 20-40 years from now, as parents try to explain to their kids what an "Expo" was.

Definitely Expos 🙂 but I fear the HOF will make him wear a Cubs cap.🙁 Heard yesterday on TV that it's no longer the player's choice.

Growing up in Chicago, Cubs all the way. 🙂

The Chicago Tribune claims he prefers his time with the Cubs, but I have no idea about their source or if that matters since the HOF people will be making the call.

Nope. It's ultimately up to the Hall of Fame to pick the player's cap. Andre Dawson is an interesting case, however, in that his career had two distinct parts for two different franchises. When the Hall can't pick, they'll work with the player to resolve the cap issue.

I know his knees would prefer the Cubs since Wrigley's grass field saved his career. :awe:

At least you still have Toronto. Besides, trying to convince the Frenchies to like baseball was a losing battle all along.

Sucks though because I actually really liked the Expos when I was a kid. Great team!

Actually, I had heard that their attendance was pretty good, but that it was the strike that killed baseball there. It also eliminated the playoffs for that extremely talented team that year.

I'm biased, because I'm a Cub fan...

... but as a player he wanted to leave the Expos because of his knees. Not saying Montreal didn't, but Chicago loved him - it's not often that a guy is only on your team for 6 years, yet you still see his merch everywhere.

I've heard they did that because Dave Winfield wanted to go in as a Padre.

Go Pads!

I say Expos for Dawson.

That was one of the reasons, but eventually it was because:

In 2001, the Hall of Fame decided to change the policy on cap logo selection, as a result of rumors that some teams were offering compensation, such as number retirement, money, or organizational jobs, in exchange for the cap designation. (For example, though Wade Boggs denied the claims, some media reports had said that his contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays required him to request depiction in the Hall of Fame as a Devil Ray). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Baseball_Hall_of_Fame_and_Museum#cite_note-19The Hall decided that it would no longer defer to the inductee, though the player's wishes would be considered, when deciding on the logo to appear on the plaque.
