Exporting Windows Event Log

I'm looking to decommission a Windows 2000 server and want to backup its Event Log (Application, Security and System). I tried to copy off the EVT files and my Windows XP workstation couldn't read them. Right-clicking and "exporting" doesn't give me all the details contained inside the Event Log.

I just want to be able to view the Event Log on another computer for possible future audits.

Any suggestions on another method or free (reputable) software that can perform this function?
