9Atm to 1Atm: 2 words Chunky Salsa......

Diver D4 was shot out through the small jammed hatch door opening, and was ripped apart. Subsequent investigation by forensic pathologists determined D4, being exposed to the highest pressure gradient, violently exploded due to the rapid and massive expansion of internal gases. All of his thoracic and abdominal organs, and even his thoracic spine were ejected, as were all of his limbs. Simultaneously, his remains were expelled through the narrow trunk opening left by the jammed chamber door, less than 60 centimeters (24 inches) in diameter. Fragments of his body were found scattered about the rig. One part was even found lying on the rig’s derrick, 10 meters (30 feet) directly above the chambers. His death was most likely instantaneous and painless.

I heard that the divers lasts words before screwing up the hatch were: " You think diet coke and mentos is cool, Watch This!"

That scene from alien 2 comes to mind, where Sigourney Weaver's half human half alien child goes barreling out of the ships cracked window.

Wait, what ? I don't understand like half of those words.

The divers were experiencing 9 times atmospheric pressure in the chamber which would normally be what the pressure is in the water outside at approximately 200 feet. This is what enables you to just climb down a ladder into the water outside, since the pressure is equal the water doesn't come in. At this pressure your body and everything in it has dissolved gasses. Going from 9 atm to 1 (normal air pressure) instantaneously would make the body literally explode from the blood and other liguids would turn to a gas immediately.

This is also the cause of the bends in scuba diving where dissolved nitrogen turns to gas bubbles in your blood causing all sorts of problems or death.

Not such a bad way to die actually. Not much time to feel any pain or think "Shit, I'm going to die!"...

That's Alien:Resurrection which is actually number 4 in the series.
The difference between the two is Alien 2 was actually a good movie.

Only on AT would this have been picked up in just a few replies.

I love this place!

BTW, is there a video of this? Otherwise, the thread with the snake wins.

on another note this weeks mythbusters was kinda kewl😉
they did a check on whether water can protect you from explosion..
more fun was the bullets vs phonebooks/armored car. carrie shot a 50cal🙂
