Explosions in Dallas

It looks like an action movie going on downtown Dallas. There's explosions one after another. They've evacuated about half a mile and are just waiting for the explosions to stop.

DALLAS -- An explosion at a gas plant has shut down Interstate 30 at Interstate 35E near Dallas, forcing evacuations within a half mile. The 3 alarm gas fire has sent flames at least 100 feet into the air at a propane and gas company in the 500 block of Industrial Boulevard.

Hope nobody was hurt.

As for gas prices - <Cartman>Dammit!</Cartman>. Just when they dropped a little too.

I can still see the fire smoldering from my office. When i first heard the explosions i thought it was construction noise until i heard all the sirens.

Are we talking a gasoline refinery?

no

The three-alarm gas fire sparked several explosions and sent flames at least 100 feet into the air at a propane and gas company in the 500 block of S. Industrial Boulevard.

sounds like a bottler, for lack of a better word.

It is not a refinery, there are no refineries in or near Dallas. There is the Exxon exchange tanks in Irving though, about 10-miles or so and Exxon headquarters is about 2 miles from this explosion, so Expect gas prices to rise due to that. Thankfully I filled up last night.

Watch live on CNN

"Turner Media Plug-in" needed. Download and install? No thanks.

I did some digging. This is a SOFTIMAGE|XSI "the industry?s leading nonlinear 3-D production environment." Why is this needed for a live TV feed? Gawd i hate this proprietary bullshit AOL/Time/Warner/Turner/monolopy.

That sucks. I'm surprised it wasn't another BP facility though. It shouldn't impact any of us though, unless you're a welder in the Dallas area.

Just saw the video on it, some impressive shit.

Hehe yeah there was some great footage. Channel 8 ( ABC I think ) kept replaying a video of a gas storage cylinder with flames shooing out. There was water being squirted out a window onto the flames and periodically jets of fire would flash out of the cylinder. I think that bit ended with a fireball consuming the building where the water was coming out.

Another station showed the cylinders shooting into the air and landing hundreds of feet away. They'd hit the ground and flames would continue to come out. Even had the obligatory dallas hicks walking to the flaming cylinders to gawk.
