This finally got posted on fark and one guy lives near the place it happened. He had this to say:

Yes, I live less than a mile from the blast site. I'm Jewish. Lots of jewish Deli's, Temples, retirement homes, doctors offices, etc in this area. To be fair in recent years there have been a lot of Persians, Isrealis and Russian moving in as well. But the entire Ventura Blvd corridor is known as a heavily Jewish area. The apartment buildings and condos are concentrated by the Blvd and are heavily populated by retired Jews, whereas the younger folks live in more suburdan areas.

So, while we don't know the cause of this, I'm mindful that we were just warned of possible attacks to apartment buildings last week - and here it happens in a jewish area by my house. I'm very angry that this is going on in my backyard. Very angry and saddened.
