Explosion at Brussels airport

No, there needs to be an OT thread so we can have the discussion in peace without people talking about what Bernie, or Clinton, or Trump says about it. P&N is an unrivaled shithole and the stuff that happens there needs to stay there.

Sometimes the people of OT also need news without the politics.

They should just remove the N from P&N to embrace what resides there and let news go here.

According to the news there are 34 deceased. And there are at least 230 people wounded.
A third bombing did luckily not happen, and the bomb was found by the police.
The third terrorist has probably fled the scene.
Eye witnesses have confirmed that the men were yelling in Arabic before the explosions took place.
It is mentioned that IS (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the bombings but this has yet to be confirmed.

iirc the way israeli airport security is done, there aren't crowded check points.

it's always been understood to be politics and political news.

Having flown out of Ben Gurion airport many times, you have a large checkpoint trying to enter the airport. 100s of people stuck at the security checkpoint once you enter the airport. Then you have to go thru customs which is another large checkpoint.

Sucks, but reality is if someone wants to do something like this they'll find away. More security and police state just means that the terrorists win.

That seems to be true and leads to a conclusion that, since it is all but impossible to secure the hundreds of thousands of potential targets, the logical solution is to secure the source of the "someones". Few people have the stomach for that which means the terrorists win. Or, we do nothing and the terrorists win by default.

Essentially, terrorists are winners and the rest of the World are losers.

Remember an episode of The Unit were they were having a seminar about defenses and it mentioned how it is nearly impossible to design against a single determined individual as they'll almost always be able to inflict considerable destruction in a limited area. Intel is about the only thing that will stop them unless they're rather sloppy.

Do you even know what kind of security they have?! When was the last time a bomb brought down an Israeli commercial jet or a bomb was detonated in their airport? Now keep in mind Israel has a target on their back the size of the freaking sun!

You people want to ho hum and and be so nonchalant as if you were the President watching a baseball game!

Time to fight back, time to get tough, time to do something and not be a fucking target. Does better security reduce all terrorist activity? Fuck no! But it's a start. You have to do something.

Our government IS the problem. Giving them more power will solve nothing.

Even if no one flew and you closed all airports, they'd find some place else to kill people. That's what terrorists do. No one just says "Man they are just making it too difficult to kill people, guess I'll play Halo instead"

Instead, what you get is like if you banned guns. Sure you may think you are making people safer, but the bad guys are still going to be bad guys, just everyone else is inconvenienced beyond belief. Think about the annoyance of TSA x 100.

We really are jaded by this stuff... Only two page thread in OT. And local news is making it a back-page story and focusing on the former mayor's death.

Kind of odd that most of the focus of the media, and this thread, has been on the airport and not the train station where the other half of the people died.

It was the first thing I heard about when I turned on the radio this evening.

I'm afraid to say, but quite frankly the terrorists have won. Everything has been shut down and fear has gripped the city.

Seriously do you have some sort of spilt personality or something?
