Agreed.

I'd love to see more competition in the video card market, as that usually means somewhat better prices & products being pushed out :)

Alright, I've got the new 1.06.10 drivers installed. I went and played a full game of NS for about 15 minutes. We got raped, and so did the V3 :p

Here are the fraps recordings:

2004-10-09 00:07:11 - hl
Frames: 16997 - Time: 726516ms - Avg: 23.395 - Min: 0 - Max: 42

As you can see, it's really no different than my previous score above, if you give it a little room for variation. So, I figured that meant that the difference had to have been in the control panel. I was correct. They added better control for TV display, and reorganized their control panel around a little. Overall, it's still mostly the same. Also, I noticed in the info tab that I have that this card only supports OpenGL 1.3 in the hardware. Perhaps that is why Doom 3 won't run?
Although, it doesn't explain why NS/CS/HL would not run using the OpenGL renderer...hmm

Remember that the Volari V3 isn't the same chip as the V3XT, V5, V8 series. In fact, the V3 is a DirectX 8 chip, apparently closely related to their "XP5" mobile chip. These are of Trident inheritance, if you ask me.

The V3XT chip however is the same core as V5 and V8, only slower. These look to me as if they're the next generation of SiS Xabre inheritance.

I do recall reading somewhere that the V3 was a makeover of an old Trident card. I wouldn't doubt it. I wish I could get my hands on one of those newer Volari cards. Exploring a card that has very little purpose for gaming isn't quite as fun :p
I'm going to have to return the card back to Newegg Monday to exchange it for a correct PCI card like I originally needed, so I don't know if I'll be able to test the TV/Out by then, or bench UT2K4 either.
Unless...I keep the card :D

Just curious if I missed the manufacturer of the card. Is this the chaintech Volari V3? And how did OCWorkbench get doom 3 to play? Is it possible that Windows found an obscure Nvidia driver that more resembled this card and installed it, then when you updated to the new driver it never completely wiped out the underlying Nvidia driver? Just a thought?

I agree that this is refreshing that there is a new potential other than ATI or Nvidia. I wish there were more selections and more competetion. It seems that we are playing MONOPOLY in the Video Card arena. You know it always comes down to the last 2 players and you get a power struggle that can lasts for hours if not days until your to darned tired of playing and call it a draw!

Way to go on the review!!!;)

I am not 100% sure but I think they used the 1.06.53 drivers for the OCW review which are available here:-

There are also 1.06.57 XP drivers available as well:-
