I am noticing that Explorer is now grinding to halt, or locking up on me, whenever I try to copy, move, or delete a group of files. For instance, I tried moving a subdirectory from one physical harddrive to another and explorer ground to halt. First I noticed dragging the explorer window was "laggy" like the refresh rate had dropped to one persecond or so. This was the same for any open window (only a couple were open). Then, explorer just stopped responding altogether, as verified with invoking the allmightly ctl-alt-del. Lastly the mouse cursor froze. Then it was time to reboot...
This has happened on a number of different occasions, but performing file transfer, deleting, etc was always the precipitant cause. Otherwise, the system seems to run fine during graphic intensive games, etc.. Also, I benchmarked my memory with Sandra and got something like Int ALU=729, Float FPU=925 (both marks way better than standard KT266 PC2100 CAS2 numbers provided). Harddrives also bench appropriately.
Any thoughts on a cause of this problem?
