explorer.exe not loading

When I start a new task from task manager, I can start explorer.exe. It shows up in the processes list but then dissappears. I'm able to run mmc but cannot run any snapins. I can't open computer mgmt, device manager, user accounts, add/remove programs, etc. I get an error refferencing the registry(clsid).

Any suggestiongs?
