Been using XP Pro SP2, did a full scan using MS Anti-Spyware, Spybot and Ad-Aware. a quick search (thumbnails explorer.exe 100%) shows that others have reported similar issues, but everyone had a different solution for it...

Anyone have an idea?

Here is the log:

StyleXP was the first thing I suspected; I removed it, but the problem was still there, so I reinstalled it again.

Well, then maybe to save time, you should discuss what you've actually tried.

Try this:

What is thumbs.db?

A reader wrote to ask what the thumbs.db file is and whether it's safe to delete it. This is a file that contains a cache of the pictures in a folder, which is created when you use the Thumbnail view. You can save disk space by deleting it. You can also turn off this feature and keep Windows from creating these files by doing the following:

Click Start | Explore to open Windows Explorer.
Click Tools | Folder Options | View.
Under Files and Folders, click the checkbox that says "Do not cache thumbnails."

Also, read this page:

Sorry for that, your'e right. Well, I downloaded BHODemon and removed two things it found which are listed in the log above. I also checked "do not cache thumbnails" in folder options. so far it is working fine, but it's an off/on thing, so I'm not sure if it has been solved by that. Any other suggestions?

Not at the moment, and I have to run out. But I'd delete that thumbnails.db file in that folder anyway, and also look at that other page about having spaces in your video file names. Who knows?

ctfmon.exe (CTF Mon) - Details
The ctfmon.exe process is a component used in MsOffice to perform language related functions. It is closely tied to the 'Language Bar' present in MsOffice, so if you use the Language Bar you should leave this process running. If, on the other hand, you do not use the language bar, you should terminate this process to free up system resources.

Program Name: PDVDServ
Executable Name: PDVDServ.exe
Required: User's choice
Comments: Remote Control background application for CyberLink's PowerDVD version 5 and above. Enables you to use a remote control with your DVD drive if your drive came with one. Not required if you don't have a remote control, or don't wish to use one

not spyware but may be extraneous?

when you view in thumbnails, does it hit 100% usage for just a few seconds or does it hit 100% for as long as you are viewing...

also, exactly how many thumbnails are we talking about here...?

It stays on 100% even after I close the window. I usually restart the process to solve it.

About ~20 thumbnails.
