Explorer.exe error in ME. HELP!

Whenever you open a window it causes an "unknown" error in explorer.exe and you must close the window. Any ideas?

Microsoft released a patch for this a while back, windows 2000/XP 🙂

other than that, if this is occuring alot, you might need to format and reinstall windows.

even windows 98 is more stable than ME from what ive heard, so maybe give that a shot if you have it kickin around

Thanks. i saw the patch but both items stated that the error occured from upgrading to 2K an XP. wonder if it will help. It is for a friend's machine, so an upgrade to 98 is not qiute possible. Any other ideas?

ahh! the patch thing was a joke😛, i was just suggesting you get an NT based OS, but you are right, if you went with 2k or XP it would be better to format and reinstall, not just upgrade.

does your friend have anyway of backing up his stuff? if so then i would format and reinstall.

how persistent is this problem? once a week? or so often that windows ceases to function? (ie. everytime you try to open an app)

Every 10 min.? Hmm...that doesn't sound too good. Most ideally, upgrading to either win2k or XP would be the best (unless your friend knows how to run linux). But the cheapest way would be to reformat & reinstall ME. Search the net for "how" and "what" to backup before reinstalling ME though.
