Explorer.exe crashes

Good day. Windows XP Pro is my OS.

Each time I attempt to move a large file or a folder containing about 1+ gigs of data, Windows Explorer crashes, and the data doesn't move. I'm usually moving things from one drive to another.

I've looked around on microsoft.com's technical support site, but I can't find anything related to my problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and I can supply more info if necessary.

Is your XP updated with SP2 and all the latest updates...?

Did you defragment yor Hard Drive...? Did you clean all the Temporary files...? Did you run AntiVirus and Anti-Spyware scanners...?

Are your chipset and SATA/IDU drivers up to date...?

Is your system ORTHOS stable...?

Are your Hard Drives formatted in NTFS or FAT...?

For copying large files from drive-to-drive on the same machine, or doing large copying tasks, like mirroring drives, I use Robocopy!

Heh!

It used to be a PITA to find Robocopy! You had to download some huge server resource package from Microsoft and strip it out...

Imagine my shock and awe when I discovered that Robocopy is now included in Vista!?!?!

Anyway, that's what I would use - on the same machine.

For transferring files ACROSS machines, you can't beat FTP - stick an FTP server on one of them.

Explorer has always had problems with large files, especially when moving them. Instead of moving, try copying to the new location, then deleting from the original location. Also, while explorer is busy copying the large file, you should layoff of explorer until it has completed that task.
