explorer.exe crashes in win2k

explorer.exe crashes on me whenever i run certain programs.. and crashes seemingly randomly sometimes.. would reinstalling win2k fix this problem? and if so.. would there be any way of reinstalling win2k which will allow me to not have to reinstall my programs so that they are in the registry?
