whenever i try to shut down my computer, it sort of half freezes for like a minute, then the explorer.exe is not responding window pops up, i have to click on the end now for windows to shut down. I don't use internet explorer at all. I only use maxthon (formerly MYIE2) for web browsing. it freezes occasionally when I visit espn.com with the motion video playback. ctr alt delete always takes care of it without having to restart. other than that, the computer is never unstable so I dunno why this is happening. any ideas?

I think its spyware of some kind. that used to happen to my computer when i went to shut it down and it was really annoying. But since then i had to reinstall windows and that fixed the problem. explorer.exe isnt internet explorer. its the software that runs your desktop and stuff. I would reccoment running spybot and ad-aware. I can get you the software. might work?
let me know

:thumbsup: explorer.exe is the General User Interface tha MS uses for the windows OS. If you use the task manager to kill exploere.exe you'll see what it removes from your system. I've been looking into a differeent GUI for windows (becase its nice to have a change).

It could be spyware or it could even be a certain peice of software thats not playing nice with windows. If the problem persists after you use the spyware removal tools, update all of your software and hardware drives. if the problem continues, then look into removing buggy software from your PC (particularly those that doesnt unload itself from memory properly).

I'm currently having that problem with MS outlook XP. if i use out look and close it, it doesnt unload itself from memory. I'll have to end task the outlook.exe withint task man, before i shut my pc down.

Is it outlook express, or microsoft outlook you are having problems with? Both try and automatically log onto windows messenger when run, i have had probs in the past when exiting with messenger crashing my system.

Yeah. it may be a windows bug, because when i had the problem, i scanned for spyware with two programs, and anti virus software. I would say as a last resort if all else fails, try to repair windows or do a fresh install.
