Every 2 levels you get new spells. Some of them really help to define the class and it's fun to figure out how to use them. At 10, 20, 30, etc. you get more significant spell upgrades. As you level up you'll see new and interesting places and will have more of your class defining abilities and combat shouldn't seem as boring. The game is definitely boring 1-10, and honestly i don't start enjoying my alts till 20, sometimes 30+. You also can't really compete in PvP till 25+, which is my main source of enjoyment in WoW and the reason I hate getting my alts to that level. The user interface (UI) system is really awesome, there's so much you can do with it, from making it look pretty to having functional addons which greatly aid you in performing more complex tasks, to auction house trackers to help you keep track of the economy. There's an intricate rule system in place to ensure addons can only go so far, and that you still need to actually play the game. They really hit the bullseye here, the UI is my favorite part of WoW.
Here's a pic of mine.
You really haven't given the game a fair shot at level 8, I'd say you should get at least 29 and have competed in the 2 battlegrounds available at that level, as well as done some group dungeons (instances). If you still don't enjoy it, maybe it's not for you. A large part of the draw to the level 70 crowd is friends; by then most have joined a guild full of likeminded people and are raiding or PvPing with one another.
PS - if you stick with it, I'd highly advise a DPS class. Hunters are more PvP-focued, mages more PvE-focused. Rogues and warlocks are more balanced for both areas of the game. If you want me to go into detail I will, otherwise just trust me, I've played since release barring a 6 month hiatus a while back, and a more recent week-long and growing one (I cancelled my account not long ago). This isn't a playstyle thing, it's the fact the game is fundamentally broken in regards to class balance and the economy.
