Explain why World of Warcraft is great to me

I started playing today...don't really have any intention of keeping it after the trial is over, just wanted to see what it is all about. I just don't see myself playing any game where I have to pay a monthly fee...

Back to the point...I'm playing as a paladin and got to lvl 8. It doesn't seem too interesting so far though. Very repetative by just fighting enemy after enemy the same way. I was dissapointed I don't really get to do much fighting as my guy does it all, and I can't dodge or anything either.

So what makes this so much fun for everyone?

Paladins are hella boring, imo. They just auto attack for the most part. You might enjoy a rogue or a caster.

I love the game, been playing since beta phase 1 and still love every minute of it. MMORPG's are always nothing but kill/quest/get loot. If that doesn't interest you then no MMORPG probably ever will.

Warlock for dps/pvp
Rogue for pvp if you like being a stealthy douchebag ;)
Priest if you want to heal
Hunter if you just want to solo

<--- 60 pally...quit long ago...worthless class.

It's not. The real 'fun', if you can call it that, is joining a guild with cool people. I got lucky during my addiction to be in a really casual group with people who were fun, with an active channel.

Other than that, what keeps you going is the liquid crack feeling from the 'need' to level up more, find that extra item, dig up that extra thorium, auctioning your crap off. In the end, it's more addicting than it is fun. PvP was crap when I was playing (2 years ago), and it's not exactly designed for complex PvP, so just another injection site than fun.

Getting to level 8 is like beating the first mission on a new game. Once you get to end-game it get's more interesting. If you want to have fun rogues and warlocks are really good right now.

Yeah, like someone else said, you chose the wrong class if you want a not-so-boring time. Although I'm playing a Paladin right now and it sure is pretty easy.

the social aspect is what is truly addicting about WoW. if you're just cruising around by yourself i would imagine it does get boring after awhile.

oh, and quit now before it's too late.

First, you chose a paladin to level... they are arguably the most boring to do so. Second, did you train the new skills available every 2 levels ? I find it pretty fun to level up a new guy again and just picking things up and using them to level some more. The best thing about an MMORPG like this one is the sense of accomplishment you get. Sure there's some time-consuming grinding thrown in there but it's a means to get to the accomplishment stage. Even my 70 rogue just now I finally acquired / farmed for the cobrascale gloves which are the 2nd best in the entire game... I feel pretty accomplished, without having set foot in Karazhan yet. Tons more to come, even though I've maxed levels. There's just a lot of facets to the game that keep people happy.

I can see why some have quit though... they're simply burned out with the raiding over and over. I'm at a casual pace and there's still a lot for me... and developers are still coming out with more stuff.

Depends on how much time you can spend on the game. If you can't have consistent playing time and have to play solo most of the time, it's not too fun coz your accomplishment is limited from playing solo, unlike single player games like Oblivion. Tried LOTR Online and it's the same, I don't think I'll be able to join a fellowship due to my inconsistent and brief playing time. That's why I'm back to Oblivion. ...doh! I still haven't canceled my WOW account yet.

You can play by yourself just fine in WoW, but the more skillful you are, the easier it is to do so. It's like how some people can solo elite quests and others can't with similar scenarios. Even though I don't play much anymore, I'm still in a guild as I just "chillax" most the time. I think I'm also the only person with an UBRS key .

You've been in the same area for your entire gameplay life, haven't learned any of your skills yet (so yeah you don't really do much), probably haven't really played in a group beyond maybe 2. Get yourself to say level 11 then you can poke your nose out of your newbie starting area. You won't be able to go very far at that level but you'll at least get an idea that more is out there.

Every 2 levels you get new spells. Some of them really help to define the class and it's fun to figure out how to use them. At 10, 20, 30, etc. you get more significant spell upgrades. As you level up you'll see new and interesting places and will have more of your class defining abilities and combat shouldn't seem as boring. The game is definitely boring 1-10, and honestly i don't start enjoying my alts till 20, sometimes 30+. You also can't really compete in PvP till 25+, which is my main source of enjoyment in WoW and the reason I hate getting my alts to that level. The user interface (UI) system is really awesome, there's so much you can do with it, from making it look pretty to having functional addons which greatly aid you in performing more complex tasks, to auction house trackers to help you keep track of the economy. There's an intricate rule system in place to ensure addons can only go so far, and that you still need to actually play the game. They really hit the bullseye here, the UI is my favorite part of WoW. Here's a pic of mine.

You really haven't given the game a fair shot at level 8, I'd say you should get at least 29 and have competed in the 2 battlegrounds available at that level, as well as done some group dungeons (instances). If you still don't enjoy it, maybe it's not for you. A large part of the draw to the level 70 crowd is friends; by then most have joined a guild full of likeminded people and are raiding or PvPing with one another.

PS - if you stick with it, I'd highly advise a DPS class. Hunters are more PvP-focued, mages more PvE-focused. Rogues and warlocks are more balanced for both areas of the game. If you want me to go into detail I will, otherwise just trust me, I've played since release barring a 6 month hiatus a while back, and a more recent week-long and growing one (I cancelled my account not long ago). This isn't a playstyle thing, it's the fact the game is fundamentally broken in regards to class balance and the economy.

There is no class that is not easy at level 8. All classes are pretty boring and repetitive at level 8. It takes about an hour or two to get to level 8.

If you play by yourself and never socialize, it's like diablo but you don't have to keep clicking.

You've only seen about 1% of the game at level 8, therefore I don't think you can make an informed decision yet. You're not alone, though. There's writers who have written reviews published in big gaming magazines who never got past level 30. Most people who play will tell you the game starts at level 60.

Playing it with friends is where the fun is for me. If you don't have friends who play and don't care about making friends, it's probably not your cup of tea. You'd be better off with a single player game, or a game in a genre you like better.

Just got my mage to 70. Now I am not sure wht to do. Yeah, I know about the end game instances which is probably what I will do. I just could not be bothered to level any or my profs - seems too much like work. I have been playing for a couple of years and my interest is more than waning. I like to PvP and hit instances occasionally. I imagine I will quit in a month or two. I also have a 60 Warrior and 49 Pally. The Pally is a major bore-fest.

I have a level 70 Priest, level 67 Mage, level 63 Hunter, Level 62 Warrior, level 43 Rogue, and a few low levels that I never did much with... Shaman, Paladin, Warlock.

My Priest in my main, and what keeps it fun for me is breaking new ground with my guild. Due to my schedule in real life I haven't been able to attend as many raids as I would like, but we're starting Karazhan. We've killed Attumen, Moroes, Curator, and last night I was present for our first Maiden kill. We ran into trouble with the Big Bad Wolf event. It seems the key to that event is that EVERYONE has to know how to kite, and do it well.

Anyway... that's where the fun is for me. I'm a member of my guild's leadership... a class lead and recruiter... so there's even more of a sense of accomplishment when I see the fruits of my labor.

The game is not for everybody, these are the things I hate, too much walking around at low levels and restricted on where you can go due to high mobs in a lot of areas, transportation could be better.
No guild hall or guild town,no personal house,if they can sort these things out then the game could be a lot better,

Imo, the game doesn't start until you hit level 70.

That's a long way to go and many, many hours spent just to 'get started'.

exactly...if the game sucks for that long, they really shouldn't give out 10 day free passes that limit you to lvl 20 to test out the game. But to summarize, I started over and played as a warlock, got to lvl 11, and still didnt' like it so uninstalled. Mainly wanted to see what the hype was all about. Seems the hype is more about interaction with other people rather than it just being a good game to play.
