provides an outlet for inmate aggressiveness and anger. i'd rather have them pumping iron than smashing each others' faces in.

metal clubs > muscles

It keeps them busy and not bored as hell.

So they can get stronger so the next time they rob you they can snap your necks?

1) you can't deny it in the US, the way the law is written.
2) it works off a lot of tensions that would be settled differently.

Catch-22 perhaps.

If they want to build muscles then I think they need to be put back to hard labor and on chain gangs like they used to be......remember, when prison actually had some deterrent qualities.

yea but roid rage > discipline

yea ban iron ,they can do capoiera, yoga pilates calisthenics (sp)instead
and let then slapfight instead of pummel and annihilate w/ their fists

i recalled about a year ago, this nut was released from prison, decide to do pullups
from the metal beams on the williamsburg? bridge and he was jacked!

who ever can't weight lift and bulk up is gonna get pinned down with their hands behind their back and get ass or mouth fcuked.

teargas at times does not work on the mentally disturbed/ psychotics, only agitate them more, ever heard of "strength born of madness"

Why not use them in manual labor? IE, building roads?

I heard some states do. I remember watching some TV special on the Arizona system.

The state of Florida has inmates build furniture, work on roads, pick up garbage, clean the toilettes, mop vacuum etc. The Department of Corrections central office's entire custodial staff is made up of inmates.

tear gas, shotguns > muscles

The problem with tear gas is that you get used to it and it doesn't affect you as much after a while😉

Not so with shotgun pellets, though.

The first people to protest the removal of weight/fitness equipment in prisons are the guards and wardens themselves.

Access to such equipment is essential to keeping prisoners in line. Without a reward/punishment system, there is very little to keep prisoners in line.

Actually I was wondering about this today. It only makes them more able to commit crimes, beat each other, and victimize the weak prisoners.

Oh right I forgot, prison is a paradise cakewalk.
