Ok, my cpu temp was around 127 (53 C) idle, and my mobo temp was around 80 (28 C). Now, I just installed a 120 mm fan on the side of my case, right on the CPU, and mobo chip area. Now the CPU temp is around 123 (51 C), and my mobo temp is 89 (32 C) !!!

Why did it go up? (mobo) The fan is going right at both of them. I have an exhaust fan right by the fan, so the only reason I can think of is the exhaust fan(which is more cfm than the side fan) is pulling all the air out before it even reaches the mobo chip fan. and leaving a pocket of warmer air in that area since the cpu fan is farther out than the mobo fan.

What should I do?

That could be your problem, or maybe the side fan is blowing the hot air at the mobo, heating up the mobo. You could test this by first disabling both fans, measuring the temps, then enable the side fan and measure the temps again. If the same thing happens, you knows it the new fans fault.

Well, I just tested it. With just the new side fan going the temps still raise to were they were before and probly would have gone higher, but I can understand that because there was no exhaust fan. With just the exhast fan (like I had it before today) the mobo temp drops back down to 82 F. (28 C). but the CPU temp is about 2 degrees Celcius higher than when I had the Side fan going. This is weird.

So I either have a little bit lower CPU temp, but quite a bit higher mobo temp with the side fan. Or I just have the exhaust fan, and the little front case fan, and have a little higher CPU temp but a lower mobo temp.

So basically I spent $25 for this 120 mm case fan and filtered grill for nothing...

Anyone know the max temp for the mobo chip? It was running as high as 91 F with both the side and exhast fans going, now with just the exhaust its running at 82 F.

damn, airflow is confusing.....

You can try switching the fans, that way, the more powerful one will blow air into the heatsink and the other one will suck air out.

yeah the only problem is one is a 120mm while the other is an 80mm. The 80mm(exhaust) is too small for the hole I drilled in the side of the case and 120mm fan is too big to fit in the rear.

I'm guessing your HSF is set to blow down onto the HS. I can think of two things that might help. First, you could righ up some sort of duct from the 120mm to feed the air directly into the 80mm fan. What are the CFM ratings on the 120mm and the 80mm anyways?

The other thing you could try is reversing both fans so that the 80mm sucks air off the HS and set your 120mm as an exhaust.
