Explain hot nannies

I've seen this a ton in affluent neighborhoods and I simply don't get it - when you've just given birth and are out of shape, why would you hire an attractive, younger woman to be around all the time? While looking for help me, as a hormone driven male, immediately considered "elderly Haitian women" as physical characteristics I'd value simply because I don't want drama (not that I believe my fat ass would seduce a college kid) - why oh why do wealthy women keep hiring the hottest, prettiest little thing to fill in for mommy, while providing dad with eye candy while they're dealing with preggers weight and depression. What's the usual reasoning, do hot nannies make you appear wealthier, and that's more important even if it causes friction in your marriage? Or is it more cynical - hot nannies are bait that equals eventual divorce, meaning "I get 1/2 his money without ever having to go there again."

this is a bored question of the day thread, I'm not debating hot or unhot nanny for myself and can't honestly afford live in help

(edit, I realized that I implied that elderly hatian women can't be hot - apologies, was merely in my head because my babysitter was Haitian)

My guess is that there is a larger group of younger women to choose from as they aren't already nannying their own children or grandchildren
 
Several factors. One, like exterous said, the candidate pool automatically skews towards younger women. Also, are you familiar with the halo effect? Attractive people are viewed by others as more competent/intelligent/capable than non-attractive ones. People think they are selecting the most competent nanny, which may or may not be the case.

So are you saying the husbands get involved? I'm seeing mostly yuppy mom's doing the hiring around here

Where are you from? Here (NYC, less in my part more in parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan) even poor caucasian women who can't afford anything but thrift store clothes somehow afford doulas

That makes a lot of sense, Heck, maybe it's mom's convincing themselves that they're hotter by having hot helpers by association
 
how hard or easy is it to provide working visas for nannies from abroad?

yup even my wife asks this... why would you hire a hottie to be in the house on purpose? Since the stars are hiring them, I don't understand - are they charging that much and only they're in the pool of applicants?

It's the opposite of what you might think. They are hiring a nanny to save money, not because they are rich. In the inner-city of high property value areas, daycare costs are pure insanity.

Why pay $3000/month and go to the trouble of dragging your kid to and from daycare each day when you can pay less and have someone help out in your own home?

Pretty much this. There are lot of illegals working as nannies so prices are cheap. Nannies are cheaper than daycare if you have multiple kids. And many live in gigantic McMansion so they have plenty of empty rooms to spare if they want live in nanny.
 
I'd be willing to bet a young girl without experience is far cheaper than an older woman with experience. In general, a young girl who takes care of her self is far more likely to have attractive features than that older woman who has aged with time. Smooth skin, firm body, etc.

That's not to say that all young girls are more attractive than older women, but you get the idea.
 
I knew several when I was younger. Nannies are usually taking time off to save for college or came from the Midwest to live in or near a big city. These aren't things older women do.
