It's in the same address as your webspace isn't it? Mine is anyway, so I can do ssh to myowndomain.com...

Make sure you set the money spent to $1.00 to be on the safe side

Where is this setting? I didn't give them any credit card information, so how can they charge me? I'd rather they just block further access than have to spend money for extra bandwidth! I'd hate to have to pay big bucks because I got slashdotted (not that I expec tit to happen any time soon:D)

TELEMARKETER CALLED ME TODAY ON MY CELL PHONE, THE ONE I USED TO GET MY PIN.

Coincidence?? Maybe telemarketers are frantically calling while the do-not-call list is not yet in effect. Or maybe it's because of 1and1.

I registered with 1and1 and got the web space.

I registered with Namecheap.com and got the domain name.

At Namecheap.com I modified my DNS entries to be NS27.1AND1.COM and NS28.1AND1.COM.

Back at 1and1, I went through and did the "Add-on domain."

The status of the domain that 1and1 created (the "s12345678.onlinehome.us" domain) is "The domain is now ready."

The status of the domain I added on is "No 1&1 name servers set yet."

What does that mean and what do I need to do about it (or does 1and1.com need to do something)?

Thanks.

hey guys, i am new to this free domain get go. Before I sign up, I am a person who is interested in creating a webpage for peoples to check on pictures, and get files. IS this the way to go. I wont be using a lot of space because i can see the 500mb limit, so just wondering if this is right for me.

My HTML isnt that great, but I can see there are tools to help, so I guess is wouldnt be so bad.....

They will keep checking on your domain to know when and iff your registrar changes the nameservers to 1and1's. That's what happend to me.. When it finally showed up on "whois" it said it was ready.

This is a really really good deal. I just got it for email associated with my domain, so free is awesome ;)

Yes you can. Read some of the other posts in the thread first.

It is, but supposedly 1&1 doesn't like you switching from them to someone else. I picked up a domain name from rackshack.net for $5.41 (tax included) just to be on the safe side. No complaints here :D.

Seems like a great deal so far. My site is up and running RBolkan.com. Even used Netobjects fusion7 they give away with the site to author it.

Well, my site is up and running. (Just some dorky site for me and my friends.)

It did take me a little while to get everything setup. I got my domain name from GoDaddy.Com, and setup my DNS servers for 1and1, so I'm all good to go.

I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a *noob*, but I did find myself having a little trouble figuring out their control panel to set everything up.

But, so far, seems like a hot deal to me. So, we'll see.

I'm basically a noob when it comes to this stuff. I downloaded phpnuke and was looking through the contents of the tar file and the install instructions weren't real clear to me. Do I unzip it here on a windows box and then upload the contents of the zip file via FTP to my account? Can someone go over the basics of setting up a phpnuke site on a 1&1 host? Do I have to create a mysql database at 1&1 first, or will phpnuke create it for me ? Confised

I just signed up. Looks cool.

I'm kinda noob to websites in general. What would it take to put up a forum on my new site? Does that cost extra?
