You can use it for any website promotion. Its basically a coupon code that you can use at google.

Ok, I signed up. Now to see if they get back to me (I've had a few friends tell me that the system didn't call them back).

What's the best and cheapest domain name registration? I heard there is godaddy.com and namecheap.com . Also, can I just sign up and get a domain name later?

Hey what happens after three years, do we have to cancel after 2 years and 11 months?

What happens if we forget?

They probably rack up huge charges to the credit card you put in during registration.

... oh wait, you didn't provide any billing information ...

I'll try to read the bagazillion posts in this thread later tonight, but for now, can someone please answer this...

Is this free 3 year hosting deal suitable for hosting a phpNuke 7.0 site for a local sports club?

Are there any limitations I should know about? (i.e., my current provider's hosting doesn't let me use Gallery or the mailing list funtions of phpNuke.)

What's the cost per year or month after the 3 years are up?

A quick reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the great information in this thread!

Even though I run my own webhosting business, can't pass up free. I signed up for one at the office and one for home. Can't wait to get the Google Adwords vouchers!

From what I've read (and I've read *every* single post so far) phpNuke is not a problem, nor is Gallery. As for how much it costs after the 3 years, it ranges from $5 to $29 a month. I don't have anymore specifics other than that, as that's what they list.

2. 1and1 has an $80 fee to reclaim your domain name if you let it lapse even one day.
Couldn't you just re-up your expired domain name with some other inexpensive outfit and have it point to 1and1?

That is possible. But some registrars (from what I've heard and seen/experienced) will hold the domain and won't release it for a while, sometimes for years, so you won't be able to just go to any old registrar to re-register it. Network Solutions is/has been notorious for this.

Can anyone out there also confirm this?

I mean, i can buy a domain from Godaddy then somehow get it hosted by 1and1 for free right? Anything i should be careful about? Sorry

Yes, you can buy the domain from godaddy, and then get 1and1 to host it, for FREE. Since this offer is gonna end very soon, why not just set up your account with 1and1 first, then worry about the domain name afterwards. As long as your hosting package from 1and1 is ready, you can worry about the domain later.

I've got mine set up already, but I haven't registered any domain yet since I'm not even sure what I want to do with it. Besides, the few domains I've checked have already been taken so it'll take me a while to think of something.

What's a google voucher please?

If you're using your site to sell stuff (or if you just want to promote it), you can use the free $25 google advoucher to pay for $25 worth of ad clicks. Clicks, you ask? Yes. With Google's AdWords, you get to create your own ads and tell Google where to place them. And when someone clicks on the ad (and ONLY when someone clicks on the ad), Google charges you.

That's what the $25 voucher is for. To pay for $25 worth in ads/clicks.

You can learn more about AdWords here and here.

Did any of this make sense?

Haha I bought a porno sounding domain name from 1and1 and now I realize it's kinda hard to use a porn sounding domain name as your homepage, and 1and1 doesn't allow adult hosting, plus I'm not a porn star nor do I have any porn star friends, so it's pretty much a moot point.

Hmm...anybody here a porn developer who wants my domain name? You have to promise to only make politically correct and psychologically unharmful porn though, or I won't sell it, lol.

In the meantime instead of www.tekdemon.tk my website has been moved over to the porno sounding domain. Haha

I've been using 1and1 with PHPNuke since October. Works great. No down time what so ever. I used godaddy to register my domain name.
