is the 4500 the same as the 4550?

Nope, that's why if I were to order this I'd get the 512MB RAM for the same price as 256MB upgrade.

I would not take my chances/wait/hassle with the $100 rebate which may never be honored.

FYI - The Dell MIR is listed as a line item on both your packing slip for the 4550 and the followup invoice so there is no way that Dell cannot honor it. Rebates are generally not diputable with your CC company. However, since Dell lists this rebate on your billing invoice, this is a dsputable item in the event that they try to deny your rebate or charge you a different amount.

You can check out the ThickPurse ;) site and get details on using AMEX to get an extra 5% off. Works like a charm! ;)

Or you can just go here.

You only need the first 5 digits of an Amex Gold card and here's the best part:
1) You don't even have to be an Amex Gold card holder, that's right you can use someone else's first 5 digits and receive 5% off.
2) It's an immediate 5% off, no rebate checks, no waiting, after you add the laptop/desktop to your cart you will see an immediate 5% discount.

It's stackable with SOME coupons.

OH REALLy???
HEHE UMMMM can some1 PM me their 5 digits? That'd be great!!!! THANX! :D

Yep and some guy posted the first 5 digits of their Amex Gold card number in the FW thread.

Ok where/what exactly is the FW thread??? Or could someone pm me the 5 digits. I would be very appreciative.

I really don't think people try anymore.

Go to FW, click Forums, click Hot Deals, search for Dell, it'll be right in front of you.

It does not work with the Amex Gold card as I tried it. The Amex Gold Business card works!

Not to Iraq, Iran and North Korea for sure. You can ship it to China though, but what's the point, almost everything in this PC is made there.

I would consult a Customs lawyer if you intend to export these units. Do not seek legal advice from an internet forum.

I agree with Devil's Advocate, I know it may seem odd but there's a reason why Dell asks this question.
Definetley consult with counsel.
They could be trying to protect their trademark/patent etc.... ;)

There are a few of you who have asked me what type of memory this system takes. Here is what the Dell white pages say for Dell 4550 series.

DDR 333 (non-ECC) only on computers with 533-MHz system clock speed

DDR 266 (non-ECC) on computers with either 400- or 533-MHz system clock speed

Regardig the Dell power Supply issue, I was just reading the latest Maximum PC magazine and they were talkign about this same fact. Apparently if you go to http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com they sell modified Power Supplies that are compatible with Dell Systems.

Just go through their Power Supply Selector and answer the questions and it will come up with one that works with the Dell Non-Standard power supplies...

Hope that helps.

I just called Dell and added the $80 LCD monitor option (I know the folks there, cause we buy tons of server stuff).

Anyways ... if you want to feel good about this ... check what Ebay will give you for it ;) ;)

Check it out on Egay

I suggest that you try to order a screw from dell. Same question about exporting the screws will be asked.
