You can check out the ThickPurse ;) site and get details on using AMEX to get an extra 5% off. Works like a charm! ;)

Or you can just go here.

You only need the first 5 digits of an Amex Gold card and here's the best part:
1) You don't even have to be an Amex Gold card holder, that's right you can use someone else's first 5 digits and receive 5% off.
2) It's an immediate 5% off, no rebate checks, no waiting, after you add the laptop/desktop to your cart you will see an immediate 5% discount.

It's stackable with SOME coupons.

Dang this is cheap. Too bad I don't know anyone who would buy the system from me while I keep the LCD :)

Second, is there a noticeable difference between the regular 15 inch FP monitor (E154FP) and the Ultra monitor (1504FP) that would make it worth the $70 difference?

Actually, yes there is. Have you ever seen these two in person? It's super wierd, the specifications are the same for both, but the 1504FP is like super sharp and super bright. There obviously is a reason why it costs more....

Depends on what you care about more: screen size? footprint size? ghosting? etc . . .

Pricewise, they're pretty similar <LCD may be a bit more though>

Maybe someone can enlighten me on this -
If the bus is at 533Mhz then doesn't that mean the fsb would run at 133Mhz, which means the mobo would only be able to utilize the bandwidth of PC2100 rams, not PC2700? So what's the point of having the PC2700 ram?

it runs asynchronously, not like P3s

edit: well MOST p3 setups...

Jumped on this one, but add some stuff :)

Added XP Pro + $60
Added 18 inch LCD Monitor + $500
Upgraded to GeForce + $20
Upgraded to 512 megs ram (double memory)

Got additional 5% amex discount, 10%, discount, free shipping.

Total $1076.44, $69.98 tax, total $1146.42.

2% ebates on $1076.44 = 21.53.

Grand total $1,124.89

I'm a happy camper.

I'll add you to the pile of knuckleheads that are spreading the wrong information then.

Dell 44xx and 45xx series are pin for pin compatible with industry standard power supplies.

I'm speaking from experience, not speculation.

If you are Dell DCSE, you will have VERY easy access to Dell white papers which clearly state that these power supplies are NOT ATX compliant.

I know it is misleading, but just because they use the same plugs do not mean they the pin configuration. If you are DCSE I suggest you go back and review the self-study materials very carefully - that's kind of scary the level of service you are providing customers if this is something that you don't know as I speculate that you are not very experienced.

I agree. "I speculate that you are not very experienced." :D

I ordered a 4550 (with the flat panel) with 10% off and an extra 5% off for AMEX. The only upgrade I selected was the GF4 Ti4200 card, I could not pass that up for only an extra $90(-15%) :)

i got the dell deal down to 314. -sales tax to michigan-
=> i got 15" flat panel fer 80 , add 20 = for 40 gig, add 20 = for geoforce 4 video card, this bumped total up to 714 with sales tax

... then subtract 100 rebate = 614
... then i sell the 15" flat panel on ebay => subtract 300 = 314
... then get back 2 percent ebates rebate
and if i find the amex 5 digit NUMBER thats another 5 percent off = HINT !!! hint ,... hint ...

... so thats less than $ 300 !!!!!!!!;)

I doubt you will get 300 on ebay for this flat panel. It isnt the ultra sharp version, and ebay may be swamped with these after we get them.

What are some good deals on pc2700 ram out there?
What should I look for in the ram. I see pricewatch has 512 Mb for $115 shipped.

That's why I upped mine to 512 at Dell. Do the Double The Memory free thing (512 for the price of 256) and it costs an extra $100. You don't get the rebate, but you also don't have to wait for it.

Concur. You either have to get the listing up there yesterday, or it's a buyers' market for the next month or so. Just hoping that if you put it up for sale in a month (when the number of listings thins out) that you're not fighting the lowering cost of technology on what's already considered a small LCD. Right now there are two up there with Buy It Now for $280 each, but the last few sales have pretty much been over $300.

FWIW, the ultra-sharp 15" LCD isn't selling for that much more RIGHT NOW (~$335).

And don't forget the cost of the listing/commission; another coupla bucks right there.

I went into this figuring to clear $200 on the sale of the LCD, just so I don't get my hopes up......

Update: Found the rebate pdf again, but still says 4500. Would be much nicer to get 4550 on the paper just in case! :)

Everyone might want to get a printout of the front page stating the $100 mail in rebate as they don't have Dimension Rebates listed on the rebates page anymore? :Q (or at least that I can find)! I hope this doesn't turn ugly on the $100 rebate! :(

Hopefully just updating the .pdf files for later.......to the 4550 model!

Thanks Dong Tran! I have never seen either of them in person, so I am flying blind. Now I just need to decide whether to get the 15" FP, the 17" FP or the 19" CRT. Decisions, decisions...

Currently, I am considering the following upgrades (this seems to change hourly)...

2.53 ghz processor +$45

512 MB memory +$145 (I am not sure about this one, opinions seem to go both ways. My initial inclination was to get memory elsewhere. I don't mind waiting for a rebate, but I don't want to have to waste a lot of time tracking it down)

80 gig HD +$81

16x DVD +$27

40x CD/RW +$71 (You can get this for about $56 here, but I figure it would be worth the extra money just to simplify things.)

19" CRT +$18
15" FP Ultra +$63
17" FP Ultra +$288

Anyone care to stop me before I do something stupid? Am I taking a hot deal and making it tepid by doing any/all of the upgrades?

my 2 cents of ram (base price + $20 hard drive upgrade + $20 video card upgrade) (no flat panel)
15% off = 10% off from known couopn & 5% off from amex

$669 (128MB RAM)
15% off = $569
- $100 rebate = $469

$469 + $70 (256MB RAM from crucial) = $539 (384MB RAM) (wait for rebate)

$719 (512MB RAM from Dell) (Costs $50 more but no no rebate)
15% off = $611
(no rebate)

$611 (512MB RAM & no rebate to wait for)

$819 (512MB RAM from Dell) (Costs $150 more but get rebate)
15% off = $696
- $100 rebate = $596

$596 (512MB RAM but wait for rebate)

is the 4500 the same as the 4550?
