Hmmm.... good deal. But somehow I'm unconvinced that this is the best deal I can get. Personally, the tax kills it for me. That, plus the fact that I still have to buy more RAM to fit this thing out.

Does no one else think a better deal could be out there just around the corner on Dell Home?

BTW, does anyone know what the return policy on Dell is like for these systems? Do you pay, or do they take it back for free?

you pay the shipping .
IT does use 333Mhz or PC2700, so do not compare to 4500' pc2100

What is Dell's Return Policy

<BIG><FONT size=4>Overview</FONT><A id=toc name=toc></A></BIG>
Dell offers a Total Satisfaction return policy. You can request to return an item within 30 days from the original invoice date; this includes new Dell systems, parts, or retail peripherals.
Dell-branded refurbished products have 14 days from original the invoice date to be returned.

The deal is definitely still active. See Steve's updated post or my reply (about 35 posts up from this one) which has step by step instructions on how to get the $629 ($466 total) price. The 10% coupon also still works, and is good until 10/9. I'm not sure what is going wrong, but I just tested it again, and came up with:

lizard boy - use the 10 percent coupon, available through many sources (including eBates where you can save an extra 2%), and subtract $100 for the rebate. :)

thanks - i was actually trying to help the people who couldn't figure out how to get the system to $629...i figured they could add the coupon & mentally subtract the rebate themselves

Ok, update on power supplies. Yes, it is true that Dell uses proprietary power supplies and I have seen on several other forums that swapping with a standard OEM power supply WILL fry your system. Besides Dell, I think the only place to get a Dell compatible PSU is at www.pcpowerandcooling.com, where you can get the 275w "quiet" version or the larger 300w version. Either one will run you about 85-90 dollars. Btw, I have a Dell and frequent their customer forum alot and many of the people's questions have to do with supposedly wimpy psu's. A few times, a Dell rep. has replied that while other companies measure their psu's by their peak outputs, Dell measures theirs by the mean output. In a couple of different threads, their rep. "Chris" stated that their 250w psu would be rated at 345w if measured by everyone else's standards. Now this may be true, or it may just be company hype. But I have one of their systems with a 180w psu and I am running an Nvidia card which "required" a 250w minimum psu, and have had no problems.

For those considering a 2300, DON'T (if you are even moderate gamer). Look at their tech specs for the system. No AGP slot, and it looks as if it will only take SDRAM. I saw no option to use DDR memory. Be careful of their "budget" system, or you could end up with an almost non-expandable system like me. And no, I didn't know about their 30-day return policy until after the fact. Learn from my mistake.
