Ordered this last night with overnight shipping and they just delivered it. The good news is that it's the C3 kit so I don't have to worry about the rebate conflict. The bad news is that it's the C3 kit so it's slower than the 2.5 kit.

Same here. I called to discuss and they said it would take a couple days to check with warehouse to see if they had the one ordered(2.5) Now I can try it and decide if I want to keep the cas 3.

for the average schmo like me, who's building a new workstation and this looks like a great deal, as compared with the the ram I was going to order, Crucial DDR400 2x512=$174. is this fry's price a good deal? for use in a asus P4P800-E Deluxe

thx
Lee

but the outpost site actually says now the timings are 2.5-3-3
Yeah, I know. They screwed up. Either they have the wrong description on the webpage or they sent me the wrong RAM. Outpost has been having some really nice deals lately but they keep screwing up like this.

I'm trying to decide to keep it or have them replace it. I don't really feel like going through an RMA process and then having to worry about the rebate if I get the 2.5 and they dink around with my order info. I'll probably keep the C3. From what I could find out the overall timings are 3-3-3-8 for the C3 and 2.5-3-3-7 for the 2.5. I don't plan to overclock and the .5 difference in CAS latency does not make any difference according to some recent articles I read about the subject.

the C3 version of this kit has timings of 3-4-4-8 I believe

Outpost pulls this Bait and Switch crap all the time!

If you finally get them to send you the right item they'll claim the rebate isn't valid because they give you such a short window to submit it.

The California AG really needs to investigate them.

I do not see any product identification on the Corsair Value Select label which the rebate asks for. Maybe it is the same label on all products (the C3 and the 2.5). If that is true, then the only product description is on the rebate receipt. I don't see how they can deny the rebate.

Just to confirm, I finally got mine today (although the 2nd day service was actually estimated to arrive tomorrow, so it's early 🙂) and it's the C3 kit. That's great for the rebate, but is still significantly deceptive considering the item on the page. Still, I suppose that with the rebate, it's a decent price, and it'll be better than just having 512MB of PC2100, regardless of the timings. My FSB is only 266, so it will still only run at PC2100 speeds, correct?

Depends on your system, you can run some motherboards async (just make sure memory speed is set to SPD or 200). The catch is generally it still wont be faster due to bottlenecks of cpu fsb and memory speed not matching, and performance can actually be a little slower, so its generally recommended to set it to auto or 133 to match your cpu fsb to prevent bottlenecking.

I received mine today as well and it is C3.

I was actually on hold with Outpost and while waiting I realized that I didn't know what I was going to complain about! Yes, it is sneaky how they advertised it but I figured they would say, "okay, return the RAM and we'll send you the C2.5 version for $210."

I'm actually using these sticks in my 3.06 P4 system so it's only running PC2700 speed anyway. I'll give it some torture testing tonight but so far no problems.

I did get an offer to return product - they agreed to reimburse shipping - because it was no longer in stock. It is in stock and I asked if I had any other options. It will be brought to the attention of a manager. I don't really know if there is a true difference in these products. Still a better than average price.

Just saw this yesterday (haven't hit the forum in a few days) and ordered. When I placed my order, the set was showing in stock. When I checked my order status today, it shows as "Call for Availability" on the product page and backordered on my order status page. Anyone else order very recently and show it as shipped yet?

Nope, I ordered mine on Saturday with the same results... I did 2 day shipping and it still says backordered on my order page. I'm calling them now to get my shipping refunded and figure out what to do about the rebate........

Edit: Just got off the phone and they said that they have contacted corporate to find out when they are getting more inventory and if the rebate will be extended by the rebate company. He said he'd send me an e-mail when they get word because I told him that if I don't get it in time for the rebate, I don't want it. He wouldn't give me free shipping or anything... Anyways, he said there's 240 of these on backorder, so there's quite a few of us in this situation. These companies should have better inventory control systems... Said "in stock" when I ordered it on Saturday and mine's backordered and RagmanX ordered on Monday and it STILL said in stock... Ugh...

Yup, in the same boat as you guys. Placed my order on Monday when it still said "In Stock", got an email from them saying it's backordered. Keep us up to date as you get more info, jawatkin.

Thanks. 🙂

Will do... The guy seemed surprised that I wouldn't want it anymore if they couldn't extend the rebate/get it to me in time... I expect that 99% of the 240 backorders feel the same way I do!

got mine....yuck Cas3...outpost should be sued for false advertising.

if anyone wants my set, PM me, I got this posted on the For sale/trade forum.

I got it and it's C3, called outpost to return it and they also agreed to reimburse the original and return shipping cost ( but only after I mentioned someone else got that ). Actually, after the tax and shipping, and considering it's a C3, I no longer think it's a good deal at all. Memory prices are falling, and I see no reason to spend on this crap more than what I spend on a the CPU.

I got the cas 3 and just noticed that a program called cpu-z identifies it as 2.5-3-3-8. Is there a chance that this stuff is the same inside both packsges? I have no idea how reliable this program is.

Just got this in my e-mail from Outpost.com:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Outpost.com.

We apologize for the delay of this response. At this time we do not have
a confirmed delivery date for this item as the manufacturer has not been
able to provide an anticipated ship date. We should be given an expected
arrival time for the item shortly. Please feel free to check back with
us at a later date.

We have been informed that the rebate will be extended. Because of the
amount of backorders we do not know when we will be receiving any in.
Because of this there is not new rebate. Once we know when we will be
receiving these in a new rebate will be issued. I have been making a
list and once we receive the new rebate form I will email it out to you.

Please note that you have not been charged as we only charge when your
order ships. We apologize for the inconvenience and please let us know
if there is anything else we can do for you.

Sincerely,
Jess H
