Expert Crammers - sleep now or later?

So this physics final.. yeah.. I need to study maybe about 3 good, solid hours in order to get a good B on it.. but i'm kinda tired right now, and it's at 8am so I might sleep through it.

Question - sleep now and wake up around 4-5am (now is 9pm here)? or sleep around 1-2am and wake up at 7am.

Do you think that you'll be able to get up @ 4-5AM if you goto bed now?

If it were me I'd probably study until 1 or 2a, but then again, if it were really me I'd be procrastinating on ATOT, just like I'm doing now 😱

yup, those are the exact things i'm doing right now.

1. procrastinating on ATOT
2. wondering if i slept now, if i'd wake up at 4-5am
3. wondering if i should study until 1-2am

😉

Go to sleep now, and wake up at 4 for a cram session ... it's scientifically proven that you get the most rest before 12 at night. Also if you study tomorrow morning, the information will be fresh in your mind when you take the exam.

physics?!?! I think you're screwed as it is... too many formulas and too little time, just my opinion.

Good luck anyways

it's easy, kinematics physics. Got 65/100 on the midterm, mean of class was 37/100 (standard dev. was like 15)

argh I need to lock myself out of internet explorer 😱

you know, my cable internet went out all day saturday, and that was the most productive day i've ever had in months

Never sleep first.....you can wake up late and be in a bind......study now then sleep on it.....your brain actually digests the material while you are asleep and it seems to be better IMHO, at least it always was for me.

I needed a good 6 hours to get ready for my engineering physics tests. I'm not an engineer though; pre-med.

I'd study now; sleep later. Simply because studying right before the test usually stresses people. Besides, I'm sure you'd rather get up at 7AM, eat a nice breakfast, get dressed, and walk in casually into the exam room.

I don't doubt it 😱

Ditto what the dudes above just said...I'm out...paper writing time.

well, i'm going to nap now, wake up around 2am as opposed to 4am, and study for about 3-4 hrs. Too many people around to talk to and too many people on ATOT to bother me (GO AWAY ATOT!!! 😉) I'll have a few hours just to kick back afterwards, then after the exam I'll have a nice nap. and then start studying for my next final, on wednesday 🙁

Totally depends on you. I always had good success cramming and getting an hour or two of sleep (setting multiple alarms because I'm a heavy sleeper) afterwards, leaving myself a half-hour in the morning to review my notes ("refresh my memory 🙂).

The times I tried it the other way around I would feel totally rushed in the morning and I'd be constantly worrying about the test while trying to study--wasn't nearly as effective for me. Plus there's always that possibility you'd oversleep and wake up with nary enough time to put on some clothes and take the test. Yikes.

I loved college but Physics tests were the worst.

Edit: Actually, I think I do the best when I study all night and just stay up--sleep after the test. My all-nighters were very productive for the most part 🙂

so that puts you in the top ~7% if its a standard distribution... some of more my stats-savvy profs decided that was inaccurate because stupid people weren't going to take their classes, and theres not a large sample size, so they looked for groupings.
